The SCC Disaster Relief team has jumped right into working with Operation Blessing (OB) to assist families affected by Hurricane Sandy in New York! The team was divided into three work groups on Monday, their first day in the field. One team member served at the registrar for Operation Blessing where she met several residents and was able to register 12 new families needing assistance. She also welcomed two couples that had the day off and just wanted to help where needed. The second group worked at the OB distribution center to prioritize, organize, and inventory all tools, Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), food & toiletry donations being prepared to be distributed to families in need.
Finally, the third group was sent to work with the Mets family where they were amazed to see how God ‘showed up’ in that home. The Mets are a young couple (82 & 83) and have been married for 60 years. They never thought in a million years that at their ages they would have to be emptying out their home due to a hurricane in their small town of Breezy Point, NY. They were in the middle of renovations before the storm and received news that their hired contractor had tragically passed away in the storm. To top it off, they were not covered by insurance due to the remodel. Little do they know that Operation Blessing is planning a mini ‘extreme makeover’ for them – and our team gets to be a part of this blessing! The team is pictured here praying with the Mets. Please pray with us that the Lord would continue to use this team to share His great compassion for the people of Breezy Point, NY!
