Hey everyone!
Thanks so much for the prayers recently! I wanted update everyone on some things going on here that some of you may or may not know about! About a week ago the first Ecuador missions team arrived back in Savannah and a team member was diagnosed with Dengue Fever! This led to multiple issues as far as how to move forward with the rest of this summer in Ecuador! The missionaries as well as the other interns and I went into the main town nearby to get more info on the spread of the Fever in the area! We learned that there were cases throughout the area we are working in but cases are slowly but surely dropping! According to the hospital here in Ecuador the strand of fever here is not an extremely dangerous one and is only really dangerous if you get it and are unable to receive treatment although its still not something you want to get! With all that said this has led to the delaying of the second Ecuador team but we are hopeful everything will be back on track for team 3 in July!
Initially the other interns and I were told we had the option of returning home to avoid getting ill! However, me and the other interns were left with the final decision on that and we all chose to stay for the rest of the summer despite the fever. Although it is scary being here with all of this going on and so much uncertainty in the air, God is ultimately still in control! All of us are in agreement that there are certain families that need prayer, certain kids that need to be told they are beautiful and loved, and certain life long relationships that need to be made. We decided we would all go through any sort of risk of sickness to make those things happen – not so we can be the cool kids who stuck it out, but because God has put us in a place that desperately needs to hear about the incredible, amazing, gracious God that loves each and every person here! Telling kids they are beautiful for the first time, and jumping rope with a kid who gets no attention at home, and reading David and Goliath in Spanish to kids who don’t own Bibles….that is worth far more than any amount of illness free days I could ask for! Thanks for the prayers more pics and blogs to come soon!
