Today our team went into the village for the first time and met the community. I played with all of the tiny children who didn’t want to play soccer with the older kids. I really enjoyed talking with members of the community and leaning more about the lives of these people. I learned more about how while we may not have as much physical poverty, we all are broken spiritually and we can all relate to each other through that.

After the first day in Ecuador, I’ve learned so much about the culture of the community and our own group. The kids are so spiritually connected and to be a part of that is such an unexplainable feeling that just can’t be put into words. After playing soccer with everyone I learned two things: they are much more talented than I ever expected, and bonding through the game of soccer allows you to find a connection with people that otherwise would be difficult. I even built a connection with my group through leading with the other kids. I didn’t expect to learn so much with my group as I did, but having these experiences with them makes this mission trip easier to connect with the community.
