It’s been another awesome day in coastal Ecuador! We were all surprised this morning when we turned on the lights and no light came out! Work was being done on some power lines nearby, so we had no power. Luckily, though, the stove was gas, so we were able to have a delicious desayuno of pancakes, eggs, and fresh fruit. Then we made our way south to Libertador Bolívar and had our third GO DEEP formation. Then we had chili and homemade French fries for almuerzo at the home of our friends, Rosita and Darwin. Immediately after, we loaded up in the Scooby-Doo van and in the back of a local’s pickup truck and headed into the mountains to a village called Sitio Nuevo. There, we walked around and met people at their homes to talk about Jesus and play with the kids. The people were extremely poor, but they were happy to welcome us and pray with us. After that, we returned to Bolívar and got to take part In a local ritual dating back to the time before the Spanish arrived. We were given the chance to tell what we were grateful for from the locals, and the man orchestrating it gave us his own thanks. Then we played an epic pickup soccer game with local kids and teens (who kinda showed us up) before eating cenar at Rosita and Darwin’s and heading back to the house. Now Summer has us all playing “Spicy Uno” and eating pizza. We all had the chance to build new friendships today and to further develop the ones we’ve already started with our new amigos. We are all grateful to God for blessing us with such beautiful relationships with such beautiful people and for another awesome, safe day in Ecuador! ¡Buenos noches!
