Reflecting back on the path our JAARS 2 mission trip has taken, through date changes and then the ultimate cancellation, it’s clear that we are not in charge. What His plan is, I never know. I just pray and try to be aware enough to do what He wants, not what I want.
The foremost thought that came to me, time and time again, as we were clearing out the fallen trees and debris in Coffee Bluff and the Living Vine was “There, but for the Grace of God, go I.” That could have been me and/or my family. We were SO incredibly blessed to have only the lost food and small amount of damage that we did. (And to have homeowners insurance.)
Another thing that came to mind as I was hauling and heaving tree limbs and getting tired was: “if this was a tree in Jesus’s yard, could I find the energy to move it? You bet I would; or die trying -He did for me!” It’s really simplistic, yes. But it kept me going.
I also enjoyed getting to know the other team members better and I think we all worked very well together. It was funny to see us all dirty, smudged, and smelly, and then turn around that evening and see us all at the service. It sounds crazy, but I can’t wait to do it again!
In Christ,
Robin
