Tuesday night we hosted an ice cream social for the JAARS community. It seemed like an easy event because we did one last year. Last year while here we prepared for 100 and around 60 came which was amazing. Since we had one to learn from we figured this year’s would be easy. But we still didn’t know how many might show up. We were depending on the flyers that went out, the team inviting folks Monday and Tuesday and a quick email reminder. We purchased three tubs of ice cream (and all of the trimmings). Each tub served 27 people so we had enough for the happy medium of 81. Surely that was enough. But God showed up last night and so did 125 of His friends! Did we get nervous? No. Did we panic? No. God provided, everyone had ice cream and somehow those 3 tubs of ice cream serving 81 fed 125. We planned for the median and God said that is too low, think bigger, “trust me”, “I got this”. The JAARS liaison working with us said this was the biggest turn out they have had at an event in some time.
Matthew 18:20 says “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them”; God was among us and there was fellowship, there was conversation and there was laughter. As a parent, do we not want to have that and hear that in our house? Isn’t it pleasing to hear your children sharing stories and encouraging one another. I can’t help but think God is smiling over His children.
