Today my husband, Mike, was lying on the deck outside our room during a short “break” from his assigned activities. He had closed his eyes under he afternoon sunshine, enjoying the sounds of children laughing and thought to himself that he could imagine being poolside in our Rincon neighborhood or on the beach.
There are some things that don’t change no matter how far away from home you are. The children here at camp a wonderful group of kids who love to play games, sing, dance, play soccer and do crafts – the same things our children in Georgia love to do. It’s amazing how much communication can take place even if we don’t share the same language.
I was standing at the end of the zip line yesterday talking to the kids as they were unhooked from the line. One of the little girls said the beginning was scary, but it was fun at the end. Another girl said the scariest part was jumping from the platform at the top of the line, but after that it was such fun!
I thought about their comments and realized that’s exactly how I felt when thinking about going on a mission trip. Mike was ready to go, but I was anxious about a lot of things. There were so many unknowns. Should I go or not? The thing that caused me to “jump off the platform” was attending the Global Encounter. We saw the Poland display and talked to several people who gave us a lot of information. It didn’t take long for us to sign up and begin the fun part of the journey!
If God has been speaking to you, nudging you, even urging you to serve somewhere – maybe by reading these journal entries – you, too, are ready to “take the leap.”
