I cannot believe day 2 of our mission trip is already complete. It seems as if time is flying by. It was another great day in the books! Today we had the pleasure of heading into a town called Bolivar. We took the public transportation system which was an awesome experience for all. Our motive in Bolivar was to paint houses today, which led us into the lives of the people in the homes. We were able to get a few houses painted today within the group. They looked beautiful. So bright and cheery! We had an elderly woman who actually was on the bus with us who walked by and asked if we could paint her house. She was 86 and stood about 5’0 tall with the most gentle face you’ve ever seen. As we were painting we heard Caesar who is our interpreter speaking with such passion. I knew absolutely nothing that he was saying, but I felt God moving. I knew he was telling his story of Jesus to this woman. I could have sat there and listened all day. The woman began to weep about half way through. She didn’t know God, nor did she know how to read or write, but she kept assuring him that she was a good person. She wanted to know more, and she wanted a bible. So we are taking her a bible on tape that she can listen to. How incredible is it, at 86, it’s never too late! She explained that some days they didn’t have food, but when they went to say goodbye, she handed them a bag of eggs from their chickens in the back to say thank you. How selfish people can be sometimes, myself especially, and this woman with a selfless heart, gave her food source to us. She had us paint our names on their home next to where we painted theirs. What a God sighting.
After the houses were painted we played with the children in the village. I must say, I have not heard that much laughter in one place from so many people in a long time. It was incredible watching our group interact and play with these children on the soccer field. We took bibles written in Spanish and we sat in a circle as each one of those children read and followed along. It was a beautiful picture to see and a beautiful sound to hear. Carlos said yesterday that “love has not language.” What a beautiful statement. Love does not have a language. Love is not always words, but love is a smile, and a hug, and a soul to soul connection without having to say a word at all. I can always feel so deeply with everyone, and the one emotion I felt today was pure joy. Today I saw the truth behind love having no language. I saw people from two completely different parts of the world loving on each other and connection without speaking a word at all. Love can always be felt with the heart. I saw joy and laughter exude every single person and it was a life changing sight. It’s the most simple things in life sometimes, being here in Ecuador makes you believe that once again. It makes you appreciate the kindness and gentleness that the world forgets all too often. It makes your realize what life is all about. Serving the Lord and loving one another.
