“Here comes the pig, here comes the rooster, and you can come in too if you want!”
Walking through the village of Yolina the first day really opened the teams’ eyes to the opportunities to choose compassion. The houses in the village aren’t much to see, made up of tin roofs, plank wood walls, and missing from the picture…windows and doors! Anyone or anything could get into these houses very easily, and we are sure that “things” certainly do get it there! We watched animals of all sorts walk in and out of people’s homes to much shock from those new to foreign cultures. After talking with team member Sara Christiansen though, we were able to gain a little different perspective. She said “The people here are so hospitable, it’s almost like they are saying ‘Here comes the pig, here comes the rooster, and you can come in too if you want!'”
That welcoming spirit allowed us to experience VBS with 125 kids in this little village, as well as be a part of a church service during which God was lifted up with praise, worship, testimonies from some team members, and a great message from Israel Rosas to bring it all together.
