The words “God is good” fall short, as true as they are. We sit tonight in a nation that twenty years ago had spiraled into the cruelest, darkest chaos possible, with over 1,000,000 people being violently murdered by their own fellow Rwandans. But tonight, that country is not this country. In a manner that only God could accomplish, Rwanda has become in two short decades a model of compassion, peace, kindness, order, and–most importantly–reconciliation.
And the Body of Christ is a place of healing, truth being taught in love, and joy-filled worship. We had a blessed opportunity to join our Christian brothers and sisters in two different churches here–Dave and Rob at the church where our ministry partner Anastase Nsabamungu leads, and Nick and James at another church where our ministry partner Pius Nyakayiro introduced them. We shared in worshiping and teaching with these churches, and God moved us deeply.
Tomorrow, Lord willing, we venture to one of the prisons in which Pius and Anastase minister–largely to perpetrators of the genocide. This is the picture of Christ’s forgiveness in action, and we are greatly looking forward to seeing the good work He has been doing.
