Yesterday the planning and repairs ended. As the survivors came before dark last night everyone from the camp cheered as they arrived. A couple of them, through a translator, said they felt like heros or celebrities. While they are all 70 plus in age some would not allow help and walked off pulling their luggage. We were told that we should not put pictures of them on the internet as they could be ostracized for even coming to this place.
Maxim led the service last night and the message was simple. We are Christians. We are not the people who were calling themselves Christians that led the holocaust.
Today Morgan and Sonya led a craft workshop for the survivors and did a great job with help from translators. Dan and a new Dan are making plans for sports, for over 70 people, and a southern dinner for Sunday afternoon. The guests will get treated to a dinner of BBQ chicken, all the normal southern fixin’s and banana pudding. We may even try our hand at making sweet tea.
