Please continue to pray for the DRT in Moore, Oklahoma. They arrived on site on Saturday evening and are spending their Sabbath with the Operation Blessing staff at their host church. They will be spending time surveying the area today and preparing for the work God has for them this week. Specifically, please pray for the families they will come in contact with as they seek to share Christ’s compassion with the hurting in Oklahoma. Here is an update from the team:
“The Disaster Relief team has arrived! We got into Moore, Oklahoma around 7:00pm after another long day of driving. God blessed us with some great weather on the way and between pit stops most everyone took naps and got comfy because we were all still a bit sleepy from the long day yesterday.
As we entered Oklahoma, the closer we got to Moore, the more we began to see some debris from the tornadoes. Although it was nothing like what we will see, it was a little unreal to know that we were driving where a monstrous twister was not too long ago. Our hearts are breaking as the reality of this tragedy is beginning to sink in.
Our host Church and Operation Blessing have set up wonderful accommodations for us. As soon as we walked in the door we were fed a big meal: BBQ, chicken, mashed potatoes, rice. These people know how to eat!
Tomorrow Operation Blessing takes the day off to worship so we won’t be doing any debris clean up but we may ride around to get the feel for the area and the extent of the damage. There have been 6,000 volunteers here in the last two weeks and we are told that there is still a TON to do. God has put a wonderful team together to do His work and I know that He will be making an impact through us. For now we are enjoying being out of a moving vehicle and getting anxious about getting our hands dirty. God is definitely being glorified through this tragedy.
‘Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.’ -2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Hoping you are all well back home!”
