It’s hard to believe it is Wednesday in our second week in visiting Agape Community Church in Kigali, Rwanda, the time has flown by … We arrived Tuesday evening, August 8th and were up bright and early Wednesday morning. We somehow pulled ourselves out of bed and headed to the youth conference. It was great to see old friends and once again feel the energy of the “African Style” worship, with the entire group of Rwandans and American singing, dancing, and holding hands … it was a great “welcome back” and a stark reminder of the comfort found in physical expressions of “touching” without any thought of impropriety.
The structure of the conference was good, with prayer, worship, prayer, and speakers in the mornings, and small groups in the afternoon for discussions. However, we were mostly unaware of the schedule, and, the Rwandans youth seemed to be unconcerned about being on time. We met last night to review the Conference and came up with some great ideas, it’s just the beginning, and, in the overall it was a great start with 100+ young men and women in attendance.
One special thing … I had an opportunity to teach the youth regarding placing themselves in good positions to be employed, and I believe the message was well received. As I do not have a great deal of knowledge about their specific challenges, my teaching was general, nonetheless it is my hope that the message inspired at least some there to embrace scripture such as Proverbs to give them the tools and the confidence to be all they can be for God and for themselves. More to come …Murakoze Cyane!
